Australia: Tasmania Opens Skilled Migration Program for 2026-27 with 2,050 Nomination Places

HOBART, August 14, 2026 — Migration Tasmania has officially announced the opening of the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program for the 2026-27 program year, with new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) being accepted from August 17, 2026 .
The program offers 2,050 nomination places for permanent or provisional residency, consisting of 1,250 places for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 800 places for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) . Weekly invitations to apply for nomination will begin on August 20, 2026 .
Key Program Changes for 2026-27
Migration Tasmania has introduced several policy updates affecting applicants across all pathways :

Overseas Applicants: 491 Pathway Paused
A significant change for 2026-27 is that the subclass 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway will not issue invitations this program year . This follows the Australian Government's policy shift to prioritise visa processing for applicants already in Australia .
Overseas applicants in the health or education sectors who have secured a job offer in Tasmania may still be eligible through the Overseas Applicant – Health or Education Sector Job Offer Pathway for subclass 190 nomination .

The Migration Tasmania Application Gateway has moved to a new domain and will open on August 17, 2026 :
