RIYADH/BELGRADE, September 5, 2026 — Saudi Arabia and Serbia have signed a mutual visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports, eliminating short-stay visa requirements to facilitate official travel and strengthen bilateral ties.

The agreement was signed in Belgrade by Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, and Serbia's Foreign Minister, Marko Đurić, on behalf of their respective governments. Al-Khuraiji was representing Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during the meeting.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić

Đurić stated that the agreement "lays an important foundation for the bilateral legal framework governing consular cooperation". He also expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia's support during the evacuation of Serbian citizens from Riyadh amid recent developments in the Middle East.

Đurić noted that Serbia is "committed to deepening its overall cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with particular emphasis on economic cooperation". He highlighted Serbia's interest in further advancing trade cooperation, increasing exports of Serbian products, and drawing on Saudi expertise in science and technology.

The Foreign Minister also expressed hope that the opening of a Saudi embassy in Belgrade would provide further impetus to bilateral relations.

Background and Context

The agreement was signed on the margins of the Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade. During the meeting, the interlocutors recalled the Movement's First Conference and Friendship Park, where the first "Tree of Peace" was planted by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Al-Sowayel.

The visa-waiver agreement is part of ongoing efforts by Riyadh and Belgrade to deepen bilateral coordination and expand cooperation across a range of fields. Serbia has also signalled interest in strengthening economic ties with Saudi Arabia, including trade, Serbian exports and cooperation in science and technology.
