MOSCOW, August 18, 2026 — Russia and Malaysia are set to finalize a mutual visa-free regime for short-term travel by the end of 2026, with the agreement now at an advanced stage of readiness, the Russian Embassy in Malaysia has confirmed.
The announcement was reported by Sputnik/RIA Novosti, referencing embassy officials who stated that the document is at an "advanced stage of readiness" after the recent 5th meeting of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation in Vladivostok.
What the Agreement Means for Travelers
Currently, Russian citizens can visit Malaysia visa-free for 30 days, while Malaysian citizens are required to obtain a visa to travel to Russia. Once the agreement is concluded, the regime will become reciprocal – meaning both nationalities will enjoy visa-free travel for short-term stays.

Direct Flights: Delayed But Still Planned
