Jakarta, July 7, 2026 — Vietnam has abruptly cut the visa-free stay for Indonesian passport holders from 30 days to just 14 days, effective July 15, 2026.

The new policy applies only to tourism and family visits. Indonesians traveling for business, work, study, or any other purpose must obtain a visa in advance.

What This Means for Travelers

  • Short trips (under 14 days): Still visa-free – no action needed.

  • ⚠️ Trips exceeding 14 days: You must apply for a Vietnam visa before departure.

  • ⚠️ Business or other purposes: Visa required regardless of stay length.

Important: The 14-day period is calculated from the date of entry. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or entry bans.

Vietnam Visa Options for Longer Stays

For Indonesians needing to stay beyond 14 days or traveling for non-tourism purposes, Vietnam offers:

Why the Change?

Vietnam has seen a 26.5% surge in Indonesian visitors in the first half of 2026. The country attracted nearly 12.3 million international tourists during this period. The policy adjustment appears aimed at managing visitor flows while aligning with ASEAN visa frameworks.
