Starting March 17, 2026, every traveler arriving in or departing from Trinidad and Tobago must complete the new online Arrival/Departure Card before travel — a major step toward modernizing border processes at Piarco International Airport, Crown Point Airport, and seaports.
The Trinidad and Tobago Immigration Division has replaced the traditional paper disembarkation/embarkation cards with a fully digital system. Travelers will no longer fill out forms on the plane or at the airport counter. Instead, everyone — including citizens, residents, visitors, and transit passengers — must submit the form online and present a digital receipt with QR code upon arrival or departure.
This change aligns with global trends toward contactless, efficient border management and is expected to reduce queues, speed up processing, and improve data accuracy for immigration and health authorities.
Key Details of the New Online Arrival/Departure Card
When to submit: Up to 72 hours (3 days) before your scheduled arrival or departure
How to access: Via the official Immigration Division portal (immigration.gov.tt or the dedicated Arrival/Departure Card link announced on the site)
Required information:
Valid email address (confirmation and QR code sent here)
Full flight or vessel details (airline/ship name, flight/voyage number, arrival/departure date & time)
Passport details (number, expiry date — must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay)
Upload a clear scan or photo of the passport biodata page
Personal details (name, nationality, date of birth, occupation, address in Trinidad & Tobago)
Health & customs declarations (any recent travel to high-risk areas, symptoms, goods being brought in)
After submission: Receive an instant email confirmation with a PDF receipt containing a unique QR code
What to present:
The QR code on your mobile phone (recommended)
A printed copy of the receipt (strongly advised as backup in case of phone issues, low battery, or network problems at the airport)
Cost: Completely free — no application fees
Who must complete it:
All inbound and outbound travelers (citizens, permanent residents, CARICOM nationals, visa-required visitors, cruise passengers, etc.)
Parents/guardians submit for minors
No exemptions announced for transit passengers (even airside transfers may require it if clearing immigration)
Why the Change? Official Reasons & Benefits
The Immigration Division stated the shift to digital:
Reduces paper use and environmental impact
Speeds up arrival processing (faster scanning of QR codes at e-gates and counters)
Improves real-time data collection for border security, public health, and tourism statistics
Minimizes errors from handwritten forms
Aligns Trinidad and Tobago with CARICOM digital initiatives and global standards (similar systems already in place in Jamaica, Barbados, and several EU/Schengen countries)
Officials emphasize that the system was tested extensively in late 2025 and early 2026 to ensure reliability.
Practical Tips to Avoid Problems at the Border
Submit early: Complete the form as soon as the 72-hour window opens — last-minute rushes can cause stress
Double-check passport validity: Must have at least 6 months remaining
Use a stable internet connection: Upload passport scan in good lighting and high resolution
Save multiple copies: Screenshot the QR code, save the PDF on your phone, and email it to yourself
Print a backup: Airport Wi-Fi or power outages can happen — a printed receipt is your safety net
Group submissions: Families can submit together, but each traveler needs their own QR code
No internet at airport?: Use airport kiosks if available (though pre-submission is mandatory)
Failure to submit the online card or present a valid QR code may result in delays, secondary screening, or — in rare cases — denial of entry or boarding.
