South Korea extends multiple-entry visas for Chinese citizens up to 10 years – new 5-year and 10-year options.

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations and revive tourism, South Korea has dramatically extended the validity of multiple-entry visas for Chinese citizens. Effective from late March 2026, eligible applicants can now receive visas valid for 5 years or even 10 years, marking one of the most traveler-friendly policies introduced between the two countries in recent years.

Details of the New Visa Policy

Under the updated regulations announced by the South Korean government:

  • Chinese nationals who have previously visited South Korea at least once are now eligible for a 5-year multiple-entry C-3 visa, allowing stays of up to 30 days per visit.

  • Residents of 14 major Chinese cities — including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Wuhan, Changsha, Ningbo, and Chongqing — can apply for a 10-year multiple-entry visa.

  • Executives and employees of Chinese companies that have invested US$1 million or more in South Korea also qualify for the 10-year multiple-entry option.

This policy replaces shorter visa durations and greatly reduces the need for frequent renewals, making repeated travel much more convenient and cost-effective.

Reasons Behind the Extension

South Korea is actively working to attract more Chinese visitors after strong recovery in tourist numbers during 2025. Chinese travelers are among the largest groups visiting South Korea for shopping, sightseeing, K-culture experiences, and business. By offering longer visas, the government hopes to encourage more frequent short trips, family visits, and deeper economic cooperation.

The policy is expected to benefit key sectors such as retail, hospitality, cosmetics, fashion, and technology exchanges between the two nations.

Who Can Benefit?

This change is particularly advantageous for:

  • Frequent tourists and shoppers who enjoy exploring Seoul’s vibrant streets, Jeju Island’s beaches, or historic sites.

  • Business professionals and investors traveling regularly for meetings and projects.

  • Families with ties in both countries who want easier access for visits.

The long validity period means approved applicants can plan multiple trips over many years without the hassle of reapplying each time.

Application Process

Applications for the new long-term multiple-entry visas are submitted through South Korean embassies and consulates in China. Required documents typically include a valid Chinese passport, proof of previous travel to South Korea (for 5-year visas), proof of residence in one of the eligible cities (for 10-year visas), and standard supporting materials such as flight reservations or invitation letters.

Processing times are generally efficient, and the extended validity provides excellent long-term flexibility for qualified travelers.

What This Means for Travelers

With these extended visas, Chinese citizens can enjoy greater freedom to experience South Korea’s rich culture, delicious cuisine, modern cities, and natural beauty whenever they wish. Whether it’s catching the latest K-drama filming locations, shopping in Myeongdong, or attending business events, travel planning has become much simpler.

This policy reflects South Korea’s continued commitment to fostering closer ties with China through easier mobility and cultural exchange.

Important Note: Visa policies can be updated based on diplomatic developments or security needs. Travelers should always check the most current requirements directly with the South Korean Embassy or Consulate in China before submitting an application.
