Smart Border Austria Completes Digital Switchover: Mandatory E-Customs Processes from 1 October

VIENNA, September 24, 2026 — Austria's Ministry of Finance has confirmed that the Smart Border Austria programme has finalised the digitisation of all remaining land-border customs posts, formally ending paper-based transit procedures.
As of 16 September 2026, the traditional Laufzettel (routing slip) was abolished. From 1 October 2026, digital clearance via the ACCS platform becomes compulsory for all import, export and transit movements.
