BUCHAREST, August 16, 2026 — The Romanian government has officially launched the WorkinRomania.gov.ro digital platform, a central component of a major overhaul of the rules for employing non‑EU workers introduced by Emergency Ordinance no. 32/2026.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) announced on Thursday, August 6, that the platform is now operational, bringing together the efforts of several key institutions, including the General Inspectorate for Immigration, the National Agency for Employment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Agency for Fiscal Administration.

What the Platform Offers

The new system is designed to significantly reduce bureaucracy, shorten deadlines, and allow employers to track the status of each application in real time. According to the MAI, it is the first integrated digital system allowing employers, employment agencies, and authorities to manage the entire process for accessing the labour market in a single electronic flow.

Current Status and Technical Challenges

While the platform is officially "up and running," its early days have been marked by technical difficulties and an acknowledgment that the overall system will take time to become fully functional.

According to a report from August 7, 2026, the authorization and registration procedures for companies are expected to take several weeks. Industry representatives, such as the Patronatul Importatorilor de Forță de Muncă (PIFM) , have estimated that the first applications for foreign workers might only be submitted in October 2026.

The market had already been blocked since April 27, 2026, when the old procedure was abolished.

Government Context and Objectives

The reform is being implemented as Romania aims to tackle significant labor shortages in essential sectors of the economy. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Cătălin Predoiu described the digital platform as a "major step" in modernising Romania's immigration system and ensuring economic growth through access to qualified foreign labour.

The government approved the necessary technical and operational framework for the platform's operation on the same day it was launched.
