Panama introduces visa-free entry for Dominican nationals with up to 90 days for tourism and business effective July 1, 2026.

Panama City, 2 July 2026 — In a significant step to strengthen bilateral ties and boost tourism, the Government of Panama has officially eliminated the visa requirement for nationals of the Dominican Republic.

Effective immediately (July 1, 2026), Dominican passport holders can now enter Panama visa-free for tourism or business purposes for stays of up to 90 days per visit.

Key Details of the New Visa-Free Policy

  • Eligible Nationals: Citizens of the Dominican Republic holding valid ordinary passports.

  • Maximum Stay: Up to 90 days per visit.

  • Extension Option: Visitors granted less than 90 days on arrival can apply for an in-country extension up to the maximum 90-day limit.

  • Purposes: Tourism, business meetings, and short-term visits.

  • Previous Requirement: Dominican nationals previously needed a consular Tourist/Business Visitor Visa for entry.

The Panamanian government stated that the change follows a thorough review concluding that the previous stamped visa requirement was no longer necessary on security or technical grounds.

Why This Change Matters

  • Tourism Boost: The move is expected to increase travel flows between Panama and the Dominican Republic, two countries with growing economic and cultural connections.

  • Business Facilitation: Easier short-term business travel will support trade, investment, and professional exchanges.

  • Reciprocity & Regional Integration: The decision aligns with broader efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean to simplify travel and promote people-to-people ties.

Practical Advice for Dominican Travellers

  • Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.

  • Proof of Onward Travel: Carry return or onward tickets and proof of sufficient funds.

  • Extensions: Apply for extensions at the National Migration Service (Servicio Nacional de Migración) if needed.

  • Longer Stays: For stays beyond 90 days, a visa or other appropriate permission is still required.
