TOKYO, August 26, 2026 — The Japanese government has officially confirmed that the Immigration Services Agency (ISA) will implement a revised residence permit fee structure effective October 1, 2026, introducing variable fees for Change of Status of Residence and Extension of Period of Stay applications based on the duration of the authorized stay.
The new structure replaces the current flat-rate system, where applicants paid a single fee regardless of the length of stay granted. Fees will now range from ¥10,000 to ¥75,000 for physical filings, while online applications will continue to offer lower fees for authorized periods exceeding three months.
