NEW DELHI, August 22, 2026 — International passengers flying out of Indian airports will no longer require a physical boarding pass or have it stamped at immigration counters starting September 1, 2026, the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) has announced .
The decision applies to all international airports across India and aims to streamline the immigration clearance process, addressing passenger inconvenience and errors caused by improper or incorrect stamping .

Security officials confirmed that boarding pass stamping by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was stopped years ago, with immigration authorities now following suit .
Why the Change Was Made
The Bureau of Immigration (BOI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs identified two key issues with the existing practice :
