Saudi Arabia Joins Global Entry: What the New Trusted Traveller Arrangement Means
Updated: 2 minutes ago
WASHINGTON, 29 October 2026 — Saudi Arabian citizens can now apply for Global Entry, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection programme that lets pre-approved travellers clear immigration and customs without joining the standard queue.
The addition was confirmed in a CBP newsroom announcement. Saudi Arabia becomes the 23rd country with a Global Entry arrangement, joining partners including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, India, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. The bilateral terms are set out on CBP's Saudi Arabia international arrangement page.
What the Programme Delivers
Global Entry members arriving at participating U.S. airports bypass the conventional inspection line and use automated kiosks. The benefit is time — frequently 20 to 40 minutes on a busy arrival — plus reduced paperwork at the primary inspection point.
Membership runs for five years. Renewal is possible, subject to continued eligibility.
An additional benefit attaches automatically: Global Entry members may qualify for TSA PreCheck expedited screening on domestic U.S. departures, where the airline and airport participate.
The Application Path
Four steps, in sequence.
1. Create an account. Applications are lodged through the Trusted Traveler Programs website, which is the CBP portal for Global Entry and related schemes.
2. Complete the online application. Personal details, travel history, employment information and background questions.
3. Pay the fee. The application fee is US$120, non-refundable regardless of outcome.
4. Attend an interview. Applicants who clear the background check are notified and invited to an in-person interview with a CBP officer. Enrolment on arrival is available at some locations for conditionally approved applicants returning to the United States.
The Conditional Approval Stage
The background check comes before the interview, and it is where a significant number of applications end.
CBP reviews criminal history, immigration compliance history, customs violations and other risk indicators. Applicants who do not clear this stage are notified and do not proceed to interview. The fee is retained.
This is worth stating plainly: paying US$120 does not purchase an interview, and an interview does not guarantee membership.
Grounds for Refusal
CBP does not publish a complete list of disqualifying factors, but the published criteria generally exclude applicants with:
Criminal convictions, including some misdemeanours
Pending criminal charges
Customs or agriculture violations
Immigration violations, including overstays
Outstanding warrants
Previous removal from the programme
The assessment is discretionary. CBP retains authority to refuse or revoke membership without stating reasons.
Revocation
Membership is not permanent even once granted.
A violation of programme rules — including failure to declare goods, providing false information on arrival, or a subsequent customs or immigration breach — can result in revocation. Once revoked, reapplication is subject to CBP approval and typically requires the original disqualifying issue to have been resolved.
Who This Matters For
Frequent business travellers between Saudi Arabia and the United States gain the clearest benefit. A consultant or executive making six or eight trips a year saves meaningful time at immigration on each arrival.
Families should note that membership is individual. Each traveller — including children — requires a separate application, fee and interview. Some airports permit family interviews to be scheduled together.
Dual nationals and frequent transit passengers should check eligibility carefully. Global Entry eligibility depends on citizenship and, for some partner countries, on holding a valid passport from that country.
Employers with staff moving regularly between the two countries may find the programme worth building into travel policy: a small investment in application time, repaid across multiple trips.
The Diplomatic Context
Global Entry partnerships are negotiated arrangements, not unilateral extensions. A country is added when both governments agree on information-sharing, vetting standards and reciprocal access.
Saudi Arabia's addition brings it into a group that already includes most Gulf Cooperation Council states — the UAE and Bahrain were both members before this announcement. Qatar, Kuwait and Oman are not currently listed.
The timing matters for business travel between the two countries, which has grown steadily as investment links have deepened. Faster clearance for Saudi nationals arriving in the U.S. removes a friction point that has affected corporate travel planning.
What to Do Now
Check eligibility before paying. CBP publishes eligibility criteria on the Trusted Traveler Programs site. A prior customs declaration issue or an old immigration overstay may disqualify an otherwise suitable applicant — better to know before the US$120 is spent.
Gather travel history. The application asks for the past five years of international travel and employment details. Assembling this before starting the form avoids abandoned applications.
Book the interview early. Interview slots at some U.S. embassies and consulates fill quickly after a new country is added. Applicants in Saudi Arabia should check which locations offer interviews and how far ahead appointments run.
Plan for conditional approval timelines. Background checks vary. Some applicants are conditionally approved within days; others wait weeks. Anyone with travel planned in the next two months should apply now rather than assume a fast turnaround.
Remember it is five years, not forever. Diary the renewal date. Members whose membership lapses must reapply and pay the fee again.
