CAIRO, August 31, 2026 — Egypt will introduce a new administrative charge for entry and transit visas, with the fee set at $15 starting from January 1, 2027, as stated in Prime Ministerial Decree No. 2553 of 2026, published in the Official Gazette on August 20, 2026.

The decision represents a modest increase from the current $12 levy that was introduced in early 2026, rather than a completely new charge.

The $15 figure is a unified administrative levy on entry and transit visas, as well as select consular services provided through Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad. It was introduced through legislation aimed at supporting Egyptian foreign ministry infrastructure, including embassy and consulate buildings.

This is not a new tax. It merely modifies an existing levy, previously established at $12 for 2026 under an earlier decree, to $15 for 2027.

Is the Visa on Arrival Set to Increase to $45 in 2027?

The situation remains uncertain. The decree does not clarify whether the $15 levy will be added to the existing $30 visa fee. In reality, the $12 levy introduced for 2026 has not led to a $42 visa on arrival fee — travelers continue to pay $30.

Egyptian authorities have yet to release implementing details or update their official fee schedules for 2027.
