DUBAI, 2 November 2026 — Dubai will soon allow tourists to apply for visas directly through its official tourism website, Visit Dubai, as part of a broader push to consolidate government services into a single digital platform.

The new service, announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 1 November 2026, is expected to launch sometime this month. It will initially cover applications for single-entry and multiple-entry tourist visas, with plans to add further categories in the future.

What Is Actually Changing

The announcement does not introduce electronic visas to the UAE. Several government platforms already handle visa procedures online, including GDRFA Dubai’s smart services for the emirate and the federal ICP Smart Services platform.

What is new is the channel.

Currently, travellers who need a pre-arranged tourist visa apply through existing government portals, authorised travel agencies, or airlines such as Emirates and flydubai. Under the new initiative, Visit Dubai will become another route — one embedded in the same platform travellers already use to explore attractions, book tickets and plan itineraries. The Visit Dubai visa information page already outlines available categories and links to existing application procedures.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) will continue to assess applications and issue visas. The visa decision itself does not move. Only the filing window does.

The move falls under the Shared Digital Channels Initiative, approved in February 2025, which brings government services together on unified platforms. The project involves GDRFA Dubai, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, and Digital Dubai.

What Is Still Unclear

Several operational questions remain unanswered.

The exact launch date. The service is scheduled for November 2026, but no specific day has been announced.

Whether intermediaries are still required. Authorities have not clarified whether travellers will be able to complete the entire application directly through Visit Dubai, or whether a licensed sponsor must still be involved. Under current rules, a UAE-based tourism business or licensed travel agency must sponsor or arrange tourist visas rather than an individual applicant.

Which additional visa categories will be added, and on what timeline. Authorities have said only that more categories are planned.

The application workflow — how documents are uploaded, how fees are paid, and how applicants track status.

Until those details are published, the announcement establishes a direction rather than a complete procedure.

Dubai Access Club: The Second Initiative

Alongside the visa integration, Dubai announced Dubai Access Club, described as the world's first city-led, invitation-only tourism membership programme.

The programme is aimed at repeat visitors and will offer exclusive experiences, services and benefits designed to encourage return trips.

Unlike the visa service, which is open to all eligible applicants, Dubai Access Club operates on an invitation basis. The selection criteria have not been made public.

The Visa Landscape Today

For context, Dubai currently offers several tourist visa options through existing channels.

Fees are listed by GDRFA Dubai and exclude VAT and other applicable service charges. Standard processing is typically three working days, though GDRFA has previously stated some applications can be decided within 48 hours.

Required documents generally include a passport valid for at least six months, a recent white-background photograph, a confirmed return or onward flight ticket, and valid UAE medical insurance.

What Does Not Change

Visa-free entry rules remain as they are. Travellers from countries eligible for visa-free entry or visas on arrival continue under existing arrangements. Citizens of more than 80 countries can obtain a visa on arrival in Dubai. GCC nationals enter without a visa, and GCC residents can apply for an e-visa.

The new service primarily benefits travellers who must obtain a visa before departure.

The five-year multiple-entry visa remains available through ICP channels, separate from the Visit Dubai service.

What Travellers Should Watch For

Wait for the formal launch. The service has been announced, not activated. Until Visit Dubai publishes the application pathway, existing channels remain the route.

Check whether a sponsor is still required. This is the single most consequential unknown. If Visit Dubai allows direct applications without a licensed intermediary, it changes the process materially for individual travellers. If it does not, the platform is a front-end for the same sponsorship system.

Confirm eligibility for your nationality. The service will apply to travellers who require a visa. Those eligible for visa-free entry or visa on arrival gain nothing from it.

Existing visa categories and fees are unchanged — for now. The announcement does not alter current pricing or conditions.

The Broader Direction

Dubai has spent several years consolidating government services onto digital platforms. The Shared Digital Channels Initiative is the mechanism, and tourism is one of its priority sectors.

Bringing visa applications into Visit Dubai is consistent with that pattern: reduce the number of websites a traveller must navigate, and keep them inside a single ecosystem from trip planning through arrival.

Whether the integration simplifies the process for individual applicants — or simply relocates it — depends on the details still to be published.

For now, the announcement signals intent. The practical effect will become clear when the service goes live.
