Manama, 20 June 2026 — Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has significantly upgraded its digital service for managing domestic workers’ residency status, cutting processing times from 10 working days to just 1 day — a remarkable 90% improvement.
The upgraded platform enables sponsors to issue a new work permit or cancel an existing one for departure more quickly, while also reducing the number of required documents by half and decreasing internal approvals by 25%.
Key Improvements in Bahrain’s Domestic Worker Service
Processing Time: Reduced from 10 working days to 1 working day.
Document Requirements: Halved, making the process simpler and less burdensome.
Approvals: Reduced by 25%, streamlining internal procedures.
Unified Information: Consistent service details now available across all channels for greater clarity.
Overall Experience: Faster, more efficient, and user-friendly for both sponsors and workers.
LMRA Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Services and Operations, Ahmed Al Aradi, highlighted the importance of the upgrade:
“The enhancement demonstrates the LMRA’s commitment to developing its services in a manner that reduces time and effort for beneficiaries and strengthens the effectiveness of the labour market system.”
This upgrade is part of a broader government initiative, with over 1,300 services already documented, translated, and published, while around 800 more are undergoing development and re-engineering.
Why This Matters for Employers and Domestic Workers in Bahrain
The faster digital service helps:
Reduce administrative delays for households employing domestic workers.
Allow quicker legal adjustments when workers’ contracts end or need renewal.
Improve overall compliance with labour regulations.
Support smoother transitions when workers choose to depart Bahrain.
Practical Advice for Users
